Ever since I could hold a crayon, I’ve scribbled, colored, and made things. Today, I scribble and color less, and illustrate, design, and code more.
Learner of Things
I’m almost entirely self-taught in everything I do. Almost. (That means I’ve consumed a lot of video tutorials on YouTube and articles all across the web.) I have always loved to learn new things and am a self-starter.
Lover of Animation
At the age of 13, I made the decision that I would be a character animator when I grew up. Even though I might not be an animator yet, I figure I’m still growing up… So there’s still a chance.
Watcher of Great Films
At last count, I own 351 movies. And I’ve seen far more than that. I love movies. I love the way they combine so many artistic disciplines into one final product. (Bonus fact: I’ve noticed that I tend to buy more movies when I don’t have Netflix.)
Reader of Books
I don’t read as much as I’d like, but I do seem to collect books so there’s always something to pick from. My favorite just-for-fun read is still Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card.
Traveler of Places
When I was a kid, my dad was in the US Air Force. That means I had the huge privilege of getting to travel the country. I haven’t done any traveling outside the US, though, except when I was born in Germany while my parents were stationed there.
I’ve always had an eye for design and detail, and that’s a huge part of what makes me the successful developer and designer that I am today. Surprisingly, it all happened by accident. An entire decade ago, I wanted a website to bring people together to help me work on an animation project I was doing while in high school, so I built it. The animation never really got anywhere, but I learned enough about web development to land my first job. Since that day 10 years ago, I’ve been using, refining, and growing those skills, continuing to learn and keep pace with the rapidly-changing web and its technologies.
